2007 MANUFACTURERS WORLD CUP MEGA SERIES

WHAT: The 31st Annual World Championship ICE Racing Series will be contested in many of North America’s finest sports arenas. Established in 1977, historically the longest running arena racing series on earth features professional Manufacturers World Cup Motorcycles and Unlimited Outlaw Quads. I.C.E./International Championship Events’ two pro divisions of racing attract many of the world’s top riders and are unique within motorsports.

Manufacturers World Cup Bikes are state-of-the-art racing motorcycles made by virtually all of the worlds major sport bike manufacturers. The machines are very lightweight with aluminum frames and incorporate extremely powerful 450cc 4-stroke, four valve head, liquid cooled racing engines for lightning quick acceleration. A standardized engine formula amongst all the brands has created parity with the machines, thus allowing the riders to showcase their skills. Factories making machines eligible to compete for the 2007 Manufacturers World Cup are Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, ATK, KTM and Husqvarna. Honda won last years Manufacturers World Cup ridden by 2006 I.C.E. World Champion Johnny Murphree from Mount Zion, IL.

The Unlimited Outlaw Pro Quad division features highly modified 4-wheel ATV’s built and prepared specifically for oval track ice racing. The Quads are noteworthy for their LACK OF RULES! Any engine and or chassis configuration is allowed as long as the machine is rear wheel driven and no wider than 50 inches at any point. This wide open rules formula allows for some wild machines taking to the ice. Everything from 100+ horsepower Yamaha Banshees to Honda CRF’s to the 1200cc four cylinder “Insanity” quad to the 100% Made In The USA ATK 450 powered Desperado and the 1200 V-Twin Gutterridge Harley-Davidson Desperado! Whoever said racing is not a contact sport just hasn’t seen an I.C.E. Unlimited Outlaw Quad race! Wild machines seen nowhere else and crazy bump and grind action are signature trademarks of I.C.E. Pro Quad racing. Canada’s Dick Matei is the reigning World Champion riding a Banshee.

Designed to encourage local participation and to allow for valuable ice experience I.C.E. offers racing in select Amateur Classes. Included in these classes are Nitro X-Karts (layback, oval track racing go-karts with powerful nitro burning 4-stroke engines), Big Dogs mini pit bikes (hopped up customized 50cc racing mini bikes ridden by adults) and ICE Breaker Amateur Quads. Also, fans will see celebrities and pros racing on Rob Caho’s motorized Rocket Bar Stools. For information on racing in an event contact I.C.E. Headquarters.

In just over two hours fans will experience the thunder of 20 exciting races to determine event champions in all classes. Pro racers, along with cash and trophies, will also earn valuable points towards their sport’s most prestigious Title – 2007 I.C.E. World Champion.

All machines are equipped with razor sharp steel studded tires for traction. These Silver Rockets Racing Studs also add an element of danger not present in other forms of racing. The pros are capable of accelerating from 0-60MPH in under 3 seconds ON ICE! Visualize all this inside the tight confines of an ice hockey rink and you just may be close to imagining how thrilling this EXTREME WINTER MOTORSPORT really is!

MAV-TV! This winter I.C.E. launches a three year television agreement with the dynamic new cable network MAV-TV. Now through 2009 MAV will tape for later broadcast many of I.C.E.’s World Championship Points events each season. MAV-TV carries a variety of programming themes targeting men 18-49, including sports, sports analysis, gaming, comedy, women and relationships, health and fitness, finance, gadgets and movies. MAV-TV is a 24/7 destination channel dedicated to reaching men in an irreverent, humorous, opinionated fashion. (www.mavtv.com) I.C.E. President Gary Densford said at the time of signing; “With this three year television coverage agreement we can continue to grow I.C.E. Racing to new and higher levels of popularity. I.C.E. Racing and MAV-TV are a perfect partnership. Their target audience of men 18-49 is precisely our kind of fan. We look forward to a mutually rewarding association.”

PRESS RELEASE * FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE * 10/27/06

31ST ANNUAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ICE RACING SERIES
*CABLE TELEVISION DEAL!
*PURSE GROWS/POINT FUND + CONTENGENCY!
*EXPANDED SCHEDULE!

Much has happened during the summer off season as the 31st Annual World Championship ICE Racing Series prepares for its Opening Round December 2nd in Green Bay, WI. What could be the most significant, with the furthest reaching implications, was the signing of a 3 year deal with the dynamic new cable television network MAV-TV (www.mavtv.com). The network features extreme sports, motorsports, mechanical things and beautiful ladies. MAV-TV promotes itself as “Television By Men For Men”. Of course ladies can watch and follow their favorite ICE racers too. ICE is pleased with the relationship predicting growth of its properties as MAV-TV develops into a major network.

The ICE 2006-07 race schedule is the most ambitious in its 30 year history. Some of the largest markets include Minneapolis/St. Paul, Green Bay, Portland, Las Vegas and Chicago.

Things are also looking better for the racers. The guaranteed purse has gone up almost 40% from last year, a point fund has been established and contingency money is now being offered. ATK Motorcycles was the first on board posting right at $15,000 for their racers. Other manufacturers are expected to follow suit. A few of the top racers planning on racing in most or all of the series events are Jared Mees (Hon), Joe Kopp (Hon), JR Schnabel (Yam), Jeremy DeRuyter (N/A) and Chris Canepa (Kaw) to name a few.

According to ICE President Gary Densford; “My goals since going with our Manufacturers World Cup 450 Series are simple. 1. Present high caliber ice and dirt oval track motorcycle racing to as many fans throughout the world as possible. Leave these fans with a positive taste on what our sport and racers are all about. 2. Make our series better each year for our racers. This, our second season with the 450 Cup Bikes, is much better than our first. Along with the existing benefits we offer to our riders racing most or all of the series this year we raised the purse by 40%, established a point fund, beginning to secure contingency funds, and perhaps most important of all to the pros ICE has signed a 3 year cable TV deal with MAV-TV. Now, during what WAS their off season, riders can compete for a World Championship Title, have the opportunity to make some money and bring a lot more media and fan attention to themselves and their sponsors which most certainly has significant value.”

Densford went on to say; “We welcome serious 450 riders from all disciplines of motorcycle racing. Basically it’s only a matter of changing to ice racing tires, lowering the machines and installing front and rear tire safety guards. That’s it, you’re good to go! For help in getting involved just contact us at (843) 234-2777 or email: ice@sccoast.net. See you at the ICE races!”

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ICE RACING SERIES MAKES HISTORIC VISIT TO NEWFOUNDLAND!!

Round 15 – Feb. 17, 2007 – Mile One Centre – St. John’s, NF
Round 16 – Feb. 18, 2007 – Pepsi Centre – Corner Brook, NF

By: Gary Densford

After the Round 14 Trenton, NJ race the ICE transporter and crew headed north to Calais, ME for the border crossing into New Brunswick, Canada. In NB we picked up the Trans Canada Highway/TCH eastward thru Nova Scotia to the port city of Sydney. In Sydney we boarded a large ferry for the six hour voyage across the Cabot Straight to Channel-Port aux Basque, Newfoundland. Back on land and the TCH we drove all the way across the island province to the beautiful coastal city of St. John’s. Among many other things, St. John’s boasts of being the oldest settlement in North America, with the oldest street (Water Street), and is the furthest eastern point on the continent. We had to set our clocks 1 1/2 hours later than EST, 4 ½ hours for the Calif. racers on board. The people were warm and friendly and who among us will ever forget George Street. The locals claim George St. has more pubs per square foot, finest live music and best food of anywhere on earth!

The racing was also great and started Saturday night in St. John’s at Mile One Centre, named because the arena is situated exactly at the eastern starting point of the TCH with Mile Marker 1 posted right out front. A near capacity crowd greeted the racers. A series of Heat Races were run to determine LCQ and Main Event starting positions. The Main Event saw 8 riders line up to duel for 8 laps and the St. John’s Title.

San Jose, CA’s Chris Canepa (Kaw) earned the front row pole starting spot, to his right on row 1 were Jake Mataya (Kaw) from St. Paul, MN; Tom McGrane (Hon) from Gap, PA and Kenny Malaguarnero (Hon) from Hesperia, CA. Inside row 2 saw Kevin Anderson (ATK) from Minneapolis, MN; to his right were Evan Bragg, Andrew Burton and Ray Shea all from St. John’s, NF. When the starting gate was released Mataya launched to an early lead over Canepa, McGrane and Anderson. By the 4th lap Canepa was ready to make his move on Jake. In the process contact was made giving McGrane the opportunity to pass them both for the lead. McGrane held on to his lead for the victory while a fierce battle went on behind him that ended with Anderson getting by Canepa with a bold last lap pass for the final podium spot.

One night later the ICE racers found themselves on the western edge of Newfoundland in the city of Corner Brook. Tonight Kevin Anderson (ATK) earned the pole starting position with Jake Mataya (Kaw); Kenny Malaguarnero (Hon) and Tom McGrane (Hon) to his right. When the ectronic staring gate went up on this one it was clear from the get go Anderson was on a mission. He launched like a rocket ship and never looked back. Wire to wire it was Anderson’s race all the way. There was, however, a big time duel going on behind him that eventually saw respective finishing positions earned by Mataya, McGrane, Malaguarnero, Chris Canepa (Kaw), Evan Bragg (Hon), and Ray Shea (Hon). Special thanks go out to the game Newfoundland racers who competed in these events and the special race fans who made our visit to this special part of the world so memorable. See you all next year – until then VIVA LAS VEGAS!
