Tim Eaves Sweeps Quad Events at Leesville Track

Tim Eaves of Shreveport won the Feature Races for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke Quads on Saturday night, August 18th, at the Leesville 171 Speedway. In the Prelim races, the other racers got the message that they were in for a long night as he carved through the large field of entries. His 4-wheelers had the power and the right race set-ups, allowing Tim to pass at will, either low or high on the track.

In other racing action, the 171 Speedway Manager, Malena browning, joined with Wayne Jones of Moss Bluff to bring the sights and sounds of European style Speedway bike racing to Leesville. 171 Speedway has traditionally been a venue for stock cars, but Malena has been working aggressively to expand into other areas of motorsports. She teamed up with a legendary flattrack and Speedway Motorcycle racer and race promoter, Wayne Jones, to bring motorcycle and 4-wheeler action from Wayne's Possum Cove operation to the Leesville track.

Malena constructed a 1/8-mile track inside the infield of her main racing surface to provide the Speedway bikes the environment in which they have no equal. Speedway bikes are manufactured in Eastern Europe and in England. They have single-cylinder, 500 cc engines which run on nitromethane. With rear sprockets the size of trashcan lids and very aggressive rear tires, these machines can reach 60 miles per hour in about 2.5 seconds. They have so much power at the rear wheel that the rider must constantly remember to lean forward, and to roll the power on smoothly.

Malena also built a moto-cross track in time for this event. A few riders showed up to try out the ramps and whoop-de-do's. Look for moto-cross racing action to be scheduled in the near future.
